A Legacy of Delectable Cantonese Dining in Bangrak

Bangrak is one of the oldest Chinese communities in Bangkok, predominantly populated by Cantonese immigrants. Cantonese are well known for their skill in cooking, their cooks are world famous for their expertise in roast duck, radna (or char hor fun-pan fried noodles with gravy) and egg noodles.

More than 50 years ago a Cantonese native father, Wu Chun Pei opened a food stall in Bangrak' s Soi Sri Wiang (Trok Kai) selling radna made according to his family recipe. In 1962, he decided to open "Sanyod Pochana" in Charatwiang Road off North Sathorn specializing in authentic traditional Cantonese cuisine. The restaurant' s signature dishes such as roast duck, radna and egg noodles have pleased both local clientele and also diners from other parts of Bangkok.

The restaurant's Thai name "Sanyod" came from "Seng Yid" in Cantonese. "Seng Yid" means success and prosperity. At the beginning, Wu Chun Pei named his restaurant "Seng Yid" but he was afraid that it might be difficult for Thai clientele to pronounce this name. He then decided to use Thai word Sanyod which means "Superb" for his restaurant's name and the Thai name Sanyod nowadays, has become a familiar word for Sanyod restaurant's clientele.

Sanyod highlights cooked-to order delectable food in traditional taste and strictly follows the ancient cooking method.
